Phase 7 · Teacher toolkit

Ready-to-use classroom scaffolds

Adaptable starters, exit tickets, differentiation prompts, homework, and rubrics that work across every topic on the site.

Lesson starters

Five-minute retrieval or curiosity hooks to open any Black-history lesson.

KS2KS35–7 min

Map-clue starter

Project a blank map of Africa. Reveal one clue at a time (a river, a trade route, a city name) and ask students to guess the civilisation. Works for Mali, Kush, Aksum, Great Zimbabwe, Songhai.

KS3KS4KS55 min

First-line source hook

Show only the first sentence of a primary source (e.g. al-Umari on Mansa Musa). Ask: who wrote this, when, and why should we care? Reveal the full extract after 60 seconds of discussion.

KS2KS3KS46 min

One-photograph inference

Display one contemporary photograph (Empire Windrush at Tilbury, 1948; Selma marches, 1965). Students note three things they can see, two questions they'd ask, one prediction for today's lesson.

Pair the toolkit with classroom assessments for end-of-unit checks, or head back to Topics to plan a unit.
