Safeguarding Statement
Unveiling Black History supports schools in delivering age-appropriate, historically accurate content within their own safeguarding frameworks.
Last updated: 9 July 2026
1. Our role
We are a content and platform provider. Statutory safeguarding responsibility rests with the school, trust or organisation using the Platform. This statement describes the controls we operate to help schools discharge that responsibility.
2. Age-appropriate content
- Lessons are tagged by UK key stage (KS2 – KS5) so teachers can select material suitable for their pupils.
- Sensitive topics are framed with historical context and, where relevant, teacher notes on framing and discussion.
- Content is factual and source-led. Editorial review status is visible on each lesson.
3. Teacher controls
- Teachers choose which lessons to assign to which classes.
- Downloadable resources allow teachers to preview and adapt materials before use.
- Quiz results are visible to the teacher and, where relevant, to school administrators.
4. Pupil accounts
- Pupil accounts are provisioned by school staff, not created directly by pupils.
- Pupils do not have open messaging or public-posting features on the Platform.
- Personal data collected for pupil accounts is limited to what is needed to deliver lessons and quizzes.
5. Reporting concerns
Safeguarding concerns identified through use of the Platform should be reported to the school's Designated Safeguarding Lead in accordance with the school's own safeguarding policy. Concerns about the Platform itself, or about content, may also be raised with us at the safeguarding contact below.
6. Safeguarding contact
Safeguarding-related enquiries about the Platform should be sent to Karl Newton at newtonwebdesign.co.uk@gmail.com. We aim to acknowledge safeguarding contacts within two working days.
7. Review
This statement will be reviewed at least annually and whenever significant changes are made to the Platform.
