Accessibility Statement
We are committed to making Unveiling Black History usable by the widest possible audience of teachers and pupils.
Last updated: 9 July 2026
1. Our commitment
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA as a baseline, and to design content that is compatible with the assistive technologies commonly used in UK schools.
2. What we do
- Semantic HTML, keyboard navigation and visible focus states across the Platform.
- Colour contrast and typography chosen for readability in classroom settings.
- Responsive layout that supports desktops, tablets and interactive whiteboards.
- Alt text on meaningful images. Decorative imagery is marked as such.
- Downloadable worksheets prepared in formats that support assistive technology.
3. Known limitations
Some interactive components (including the maps preview) are being progressively enhanced for full keyboard and screen-reader support. Known gaps are tracked in our engineering roadmap.
4. Testing
Accessibility is checked during development using a combination of automated tooling and manual testing, and findings are tracked in our engineering roadmap.
5. Feedback
If you experience an accessibility barrier, please contact Karl Newton at newtonwebdesign.co.uk@gmail.com. We aim to acknowledge accessibility feedback within five working days and to describe any remediation steps we intend to take.
6. Review
This statement will be reviewed at least annually and updated as improvements are made.
